General Environment

Large 500 acre ranch parcels nestled amoung tens of thousands of acres of primitive, undeveloped cattle ranches mixed with National Forests straddling the Continental Divide at an elevation of around 7200 feet between Sante Fe and Farmington New Mexico.

Solar Insolation is very high most of the year yet the region receives ample rain to support high Ponderosa Pine, Oak, Cedar, Juniper, Fir, Cottonwood, and many other plants.

The aquifers have never been depleted and the water in them is sweet, pure, and ample.  The ground medium is mainly very ancient sandstone.   Many properties have natural gas wells.

The soil is a reddish sandy mud which makes excellent adobe and fires very well into a fine grained pottery. Anasazi Pot shards are common throughout the Lindrith area and all around the La Querencia property.

The region is remote, the nearest small town, Lindrith, is about ten miles away and there is not much at the town which is open other than a gas station and a post office and a couple of small frame churches.

500 acres, includes Continental Divide outcroppings, trails,Anasazi ruins and artifacts, mature Ponderosa Pine forest, some open meadow lands, the manager's house, and plenty of flat land amidst the pines for tents, trailors, and RV's.

This retreat center has been slowly developed almost as a hobby for summer camps.  Over the years a lot of interesting things have been put into the center and it provides the ability to offer commerical services, such as a delux kitchen and a large lecture/dining hall, a huge dome for meditation and musical experiments, a finely appointed big yurt for lectures, a receptionist's office, a two story adobe house, 2 small "motel" rooms, four luxury resort type large bedroom cabins, 3 big group cabins for summer camp groups, a Labyrinth built by Cornplanter many years ago.

On the left, a typical knoll of sandstone which forms much of the mesas of the Continental Divide.  This one is on La Querencia and is near similar knolls which were inhabited by Anasazi a 1000 years ago.  Many of their ruins are scattered throughout the area. On the left is another knoll on property adjacent to La Querencia.

Cornplanter's Cave - overhanging cliff where he camped out for 3 months in 93 in National Forest Land about five miles from Lindrith.

This is an areas of high concentration on Dennis Hopper's land.

Paper Crete Outhouse - built by Cornplanter out of paper scaps mixed with concretefor Pat Donovan, former partner of Micheal Green, actor Wells Fargo Stage Driver.  It even includes a thermal window.

With these NOAA DEM's I can readily identity the Three Mesas of Hopiland, Black Canyon, Canyon De Chinle, and other major features in the Four Corners area.
